The Borglum Team
Your Goals. Your Legacy. Your Future. Your Choice.
OUR MISSION
The Borglum Team is a high-performing, collaborative group of colleagues and friends who support each other’s growth and success, while providing personal financial advice and exceptional service to enrich the lives of the successful, multi-generational families under our care.
WHO WE SERVE
WEAlTH ACCUMULATOR
We guide young clients in allocating their capital most efficiently to maximize the potential of reaching short and long-term family goals. This could include the introduction of new strategies or changes to current ones.
TRANSFEROR AND RECIPIENT OF GENERATIONAL WEALTH
We guide clients who have or will receive an inheritance and/or clients who are planning out the transfer of wealth to their children, grandchildren, or even further descendants.
THOSE EXPERIENCING MAJOR LIQUIDITY EVENTS
We guide clients who have or are planning around a future financial change in their lives. These situations are all unique, and we work with our clients to personalize their plans to help them achieve their goals.
OUR CORE VALUES
Positivity
We believe creating a positive working environment is essential. This allows individuals to freely express their thoughts, opinions and ideas for other team members, our cherished clients and prospective clients.
Accountability
We hold each other accountable for our actions, which is only possible when mutual trust is present amongst the team. This accountability helps us work towards meeting our personal goals and helping clients achieve their financial goals.
Respect
We give respect automatically and believe that everyone deserves it unless they show us otherwise. We earn this respect through the direct, empathetic and compassionate care we consistently provide others.
Excellence
We strive for excellence and believe that our team improves the lives of those individuals in some way every day through excellent service and continuous efficiency. “Good enough” is never good enough.
Examples:
- We met two young doctors several years ago who put all of their savings into high-cost insurance policies. We recommended a new savings allocation strategy that included terminating the current insurance policies, buying term insurance, starting education savings accounts for their young children, and increasing retirement savings. With this plan, these clients are reaching their goals much faster and more efficiently.
- We met a young couple who were dissatisfied with the investment allocation plan their broker had recommended to them. After more discussion and discovery, we helped them move their investments into a more aggressive allocation to enhance long-term return potential.
This centers around educating our clients, whether this is teaching them about financial planning before/after receiving an inheritance, showing and explaining complex estate planning and wealth transfer techniques, and meeting with the next generation to help develop what family stewardship means to them and how a successful financial life looks.
Examples:
- We met with an individual who recently inherited an unexpected sum of money. Since we started working with them, we have discussed and educated them on several financial planning topics such as investment planning, risk management, planning for their descendants, and planning for retirement.
- We work with clients who have large estates that need help planning for future generations while coordinating with their personal financial and charitable goals. This often includes building out and updating their complex estate plans to create Generation-Skipping-Tax (GST) Exempt Trusts and helping them fund and create an investment policy that will benefit generations to come.
This could be business owners that have sold or are looking to sell their companies or employees that participated in a company or private equity fund’s liquidity event.
Examples:
We met with an individual working for a private equity fund’s portfolio company that had recently been sold in an all-cash deal. This drastically changed their net worth, and we were able to work on a strategic long-term investment plan incorporating private markets that ensured this individual’s life goals could be fulfilled. Given this change in net worth, we also helped them work through new insurance and estate planning needs that were not in place before the company’s sale.
We met an individual who knew that they would be selling their family business in the coming years. We worked with this individual to plan out what the goals of the sale were, which led to us confirming that family members were content with the planned liquidation and that there was no viable successor within the family or the company. Throughout the process, we discussed estate planning techniques to transfer wealth to the next generations and protect this family’s legacy. The client received a minority stake in the company, so we helped them diversify their overall investment portfolio with private and public market investments to help reach both personal and family goals.
